Eight life lessons I learned this year

This has been a big year. Truth be told it didn’t feel big for most of the time, because I was doing things I truly enjoyed, but when I take a moment to stop and look back, a LOT happened this year. In addition to momming, wifing, working a full-time job and the daily activities of running this platform, I planned and hosted the first ever Mom Camp: The Camp, and the following week I launched the Mom Camp: Around the Campfire podcast. In hindsight that was a bit ambitious, but I was working with the time off from work that I had and that was what worked for me.

I think it’s important to do two things at the end of any major event or time period, i.e. the end of a year. First, I think we should take time to acknowledge the good work we did and the accomplishments we had. So often we blow past this step on to the next step, task or obligation. Second, it’s important to reflect on the lessons you learned along the way. And that’s what I am sharing in this episode of Around the Campfire – Eight Life Lessons I Learned This Year. A lot happened this year and I took some time to think about the biggest lessons I learned through it all. Listen to the episode to hear the background and reason for each item, but here they are:

  1. Sleep matters.
  2. I feel better when I move my body
  3. Get clear on your priorities
  4. Do something that sets your heart on fire
  5. Done is better than perfect (and a related sub-item: Act more, think less)
  6. Put the phone down
  7. More is not always more
  8. You can’t pour from an empty bucket

It seems that I re-learn most of these lessons every year, sometimes every month or even every week. I chose these eight because they stuck out to me as the most meaningful lessons of the year. My hope is that by intentionally reflecting on them on a regular basis they might actually one day stick and not require a refresher!

Come hang out with me on Instagram and tell me the biggest lessons you’ve learned this year!
